National Fuel Project

National Fuel’s project to replace the high pressure line that goes through the intersection of Main St and 77 will start on Wednesday April 24.
The project will start in front of the Post Office and work its way East through the intersection to Brittany’s Booze Barn.
The project will take place on the north side of Main St. It should last roughly 7 weeks and be completed by the first week in June.
As we get up dates we will pass them along.

The Zoning Board is a decision making board with respect to variances to Village Zoning laws. The Board is subject Village laws and ordinances and laws and building codes of New York State. There are 5 positions on the Board (currently there are three openings – call the village office at 585.599.3327 if you’re interested in an appointment).
Zoning board members are appointed for 5 year terms. The Board is independent of any reporting relationship to the Mayor or Board of Trustees other than financial matters. To appear before the Village Zoning Board, you should contact the Village Clerk-Treasurer three working days prior to each announced meeting. The Board meets when called together by the chairperson on an as needed basis.

Village of Corfu Sewer - Important Message:
Village of Corfu Sewer Law Section 1118 reads; “If there shall be any payments which are due to the Village of Corfu, or any Department thereof, pursuant to any Article or Section of this Law, which shall remain due and unpaid, in whole or in part, for a period of thirty (30) calendar days from the date of billing by the Village of Corfu, the same shall constitute a default, and there shall be added to the entire amount of the original bill a penalty equal to ten percent (10%) of the original bill, and interest shall accrue on the unpaid balance at a rate of two percent (2%) per month, retroactive to the date of the original billing.” If you pay your bill late and do not include all interest due, it will be added to your next bill, NO EXCEPTIONS.
*Any sewer account balances remaining due after on April 9, 2022 will relevy and be added onto the 2022-2023 Village of Corfu tax bill.*

Unemployment Insurance Claim Fraud Alert

The NYS Department of Labor is alerting individuals and businesses across the state to be aware of an increasing amount of fraudulent unemployment insurance (UI) claims being filed on behalf of unsuspecting individuals.
According to the Department of Labor, fraudsters use real New Yorkers’ identities — likely stolen during previous data breaches involving institutions like banks, insurance companies and major employers — to file fraudulent UI claims and illegally collect benefits in the name of individuals who are not unemployed.
Unemployment insurance fraud rings often target New Yorkers who are employed and not collecting UI benefits because those individuals are less likely to have an active claim. The presence of an active claim would prevent the criminals from filing a fraudulent claim for that same person.
People who work in health care, education, government and non-profits have been particularly impacted by UI fraud and should remain especially vigilant.

Snow Removal Reminder

Snow Removal
We would like to remind Village residents that under the law, the removal of snow and ice from the sidewalks is the responsibility of the adjacent property owner. The Village will try to assist in the removal of snow from the sidewalks however; this does not and will not reduce owner’s responsibility. If everyone will abide by the rules, it would facilitate snow removal in the Village.
1) Please do not pile snow from driveways onto the sidewalks, particularly after the Village plow has gone through. Do not block sidewalks at any time!
2) Remember there is a parking ban on Village streets between the hours of 2:00 am and 6:00 am from Nov. 1st to April 30th. Vehicles in violation will be issued tickets and may be towed away. This is regardless of whether or not there is snow.

National Grid Warning Customers of Latest Payment Phone Scam

National Grid is warning customers to beware of a new phone scam where imposters are demanding immediate bill payment and threatening service disconnection. This latest scam, which is targeting customers already facing hardships due to COVID-19, involves callers who pretend to be National Grid representatives. They tell customers that unless payment is made within 30 minutes, their power will be shut off. The customer is then directed to call “the direct billing department to make a payment and avoid power disconnection.”.
The scammers use sophisticated phone systems that display National Grid on the customer’s caller ID. Additionally, the phone number customers are instructed to call closely resembles the company’s recorded messaging and phone prompt directions. These elements make it difficult to differentiate an actual National Grid call from an imposter’s call. When in doubt, customers should hang up and call the National Grid customer service number on their bill. National Grid reminds customers that on March 13, the company temporarily suspended collections-related activities, including service disconnections, to lessen any financial hardship brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The company continues to encourage customers struggling to pay their bills to take advantage of bill payment options or to call to speak with one of our Consumer Advocates.

Last week, the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence launched a new text program and confidential online service to aid victims of abuse and provide potential lifesaving ways to get help.
The new text program and confidential online service will make it easier for victims in isolation to contact the Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and get the help they need.
Anyone seeking help can text (844) 997-2121 or chat with a professional on the new confidential website at www.opdv.ny.gov.
The text and online services will be staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with OPDV staff who are experts in the area of domestic violence.

Corfu Presbyterian Church Food Pantry - Donations Requested

Over the weekend The Corfu Presbyterian Church Food Pantry had another successful pick up at the food pantry. However, the number of families has increased and even though they were able to accommodate everyone, their supply is running low.
Community Help Needed!
The Corfu Presbyterian Church Food Pantry has an increased need of supplies and is seeking donations.

- Canned vegetables
- Canned fruits
- Food items that can be made from a box or out of a can
- Paper products
- Puzzles
- Puzzle books
- Other food or activity items welcomed!
The Corfu Police Department can pick up and deliver supplies - just leave a bag of items on your porch and let the Village Office know so then pick up arrangements can be made. Please contact the Village Office at (585) 599-3327 for pick up arrangements.

Drop Box Installed at the Village of Corfu Office

A black drop box has been installed at the village office to the left of the door and will be checked daily (weekdays). This can be used when the sewer bills go out next week and for any other items that would be brought into the village office that is currently closed to the public.
Please also note that the courts are still “paused” or closed until further notice and are not processing mail or payments at this time.
